IFHP 2012 Preliminary Programme

Sunday – September 16 - arrival – opening lecture

All delegates will be registered on Sunday. There will be the opportunity for them to get to know each other better and acquaint themselves with the city with a tour of Gothenburg. During the evening there will be an opening lecture followed by a buffet and a chance to socialise.

Monday – September 17 - knowledge required to handle uncertainty and complexity in urban development issues

  • What does social sustainability mean on different geographical levels?
  • How are urban structures affected by rapid economic and environmental changes?
  • What impact do international dynamics such as segregation and migration have on the local level – and how does the situation on the local level impact on the global structure?

Tuesday – September 18 - political visions and ambitions to meet future challenges

  • How is a vision shaped?
  • Who shapes a vision – and how can we contribute to it?
  • Where can places be found to promote greater involvement by the people?
  • What degree of global responsibility should a city take and to what extent is this possible?

Wednesday – September 19 - discussion to identify the tools of the future

  • How can discussions be conducted that address difficult, complex choices?
  • How should the funding system for housing and infrastructure be designed to promote a sustainable society?
  • How can we reinforce democracy and empowerment?
  • How can a city be created that offers housing to satisfy differing needs?

The days' themes and content will be presented through Swedish and international speakers, educational visits, seminars, workshops and discussions.
