Call for Papers – IFHP World Congress 2012

IFHP and the City of Gothenburg invite practitioners and researchers to present innovative practice and novel research that can contribute with knowledge on challenges and problems, as well as potential and solutions, embedded in the main theme of the congress: Inclusive Cities in a Global World. Presentations will take place at seminars arranged in connection to study visits and the audience will be a mix of people from urban planning and housing practice, business, local communities, and research. (Language English)

Deadline for the submission of abstracts (maximum one A4) is the 15th of February 2012.

Papers that present holistic and integrated approaches to the concept of the inclusive city, including social, environmental, and economic dimensions (the "what" aspect), as well as the way such goals could be reached (the "how" of creating an inclusive city) will be prioritized in the selections process. Papers should also be reality based as well as future oriented. The authors of the selected papers will be invited to present their paper at the world congress.

The papers may concern either

approaches, methods and tools for planners, developers and other actors in urban development processes that can counteract social segregation and exclusion in cities,

or

innovative urban development or housing projects where these issues are intentionally addressed.

You may wish to reflect on questions such as:
What could an inclusive city look like?
What is an inclusive city?
How can a city actively contribute to positive development that allows for inclusivity?

We expect critical reflections where gained experiences and new knowledge can be understood in larger historical and situational contexts. Why and how were the successes and/or failures of the cases obtained? What could be the generic conclusions of the specific experiences? What are the lessons learnt for research and practice?

Selected abstracts will be invited for a full paper in April 2012 and deadline for this submission will be in August 2012.

Students, researchers and professionals can also be selected and invited for poster presentations, to be exhibited at the congress venue. Time for poster presentations will be reserved in the congress program and the best posters will be awarded. Criteria for the evaluation will include relevance of the project idea and its innovative potential as well as the communicative quality of the poster. The submission process will follow the same time schedule as for the paper presentations.
